DRIVING LICENCE
Currently Italia uses different models. Driving licence is issued by
Provincial Offices of Motorizzazione Civile (Motor Vehicles), which
depend on the Ministry of Transport.
Regarding the legal nature of this document, briefly we can say that
this is administrative authorisation, issued upon the verification
of the presence of prescribed psychophysical, technical and moral
requirements by the owner.
In Italy, driving licence assumes also the character of
identification document to permit personal identification of the
Italian citizens; in this regard, please refer to the circular n. 41
of the Ministry of Interior of 18 May 1998, with which it’s
expressed a favourable opinion in order to consider this document as
suitable for personal identification.
The opinion is based in particular on the wording of the provision
of the Art. 292 of RD (Royal Decree) of 6 May 1940, n. 635, (implementingregulations
of the consolidated public safety laws), that gives character of the
equivalent document to the identity card to each document with photo
and issued by the State Administration of the Ministry of Transport
and Navigation.

Model MC 804 F, introduced in 1999, up today has undergone several minor
changes, due to:
 positioning
of printout number (3 versions)
change
of the header and other elements (8 versions) |
NUMBER PLATES
The last change came in 1999 as a result of Decree of the President
of Republicof4 September 1998, n.355 which has foreseen new types of
number plates with uniform characteristics in Europe.

Dimensions: mm. 520 x 110, keeps in the central part alphanumeric
sequence (AA OOO AA) of black digits; on the left side has a rectangular
blue band establishing the European emblem (yellow) and a distinctive
letter of Italy (white); on the right side has a rectangular blue band,
symmetric to the previous one, bearing a yellow circle containing the
year of registration, and, immediately below, the symbol of the province
(white), the last one is not obligatory. |
